INTRODUCTION

Image
We went to the NEWater Plant for our English Bridging's           learning journey to know more about Singapore.      Singapore is a small country with poor natural resources. Water has been the biggest challenge for them and luckily they have come to a solution few years ago.    Take  Ownership of Our Waters!   Everyone can play a part in taking care of our water resources. Individuals and companies can help raise awareness within the community by adopting waterways ,providing resources or initiating water projects. PUB also engages their 3P (People, Public, Private) partners to foster ownership of our waters. Water pavilion   Small changes in your lifestyle can help save 10 litres of water a day.If we save 10 litres per person per day. That is 50 million litres for the whole of Singapore-about 21 Olympic-size swimming pools! Explore the Water Pavilion and find ways to u...

WHERE DOES SINGAPORE’S WATER COME FROM?

Image
In Singapore, two of the most essential issues that the island city-state faces are the limited land mass as well as a lack of sufficient drinking water to comply with the industrial and domestic requirements of the city-state. The city uses up over 700 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of water each day, roughly around 106 million litres. The supply and sanitation of water in Singapore is characterized by a number of glowing achievements in the challenging environment of the densely-populated city-state. In Singapore, access to water is universal, affordable, efficient as well as of high quality. According to PUB, just fifty years ago, Singapore had just two water sources to supply water to the population of the island city-state. Today, there exist four – the Four National Taps.   The Four National Taps, in order, are: 1.      Local Catchments and Reservoirs   The first of Singapore’s Four National Taps consists of local catchments of rai...

POLLUTED WATER → CLEAN WATER

Image
There are 3 steps to recycle the water. STEP 1: MICRO-FILTRATION/ULTRA-FILTRATION                                  Removing the Larger Contaminants     Water coming into the NEWater Plant has already been processed by the Water Reclamation Plant to a quality suitable for safe discharge to the sea.It would otherwise discharged into the sea.   The membrane is made up of many strands of fine fibres. Each fibre is hollow in the middle.Like a drinking straw. The walls of the fibre contain millions of tiny pores.   After the first step, the water is just through a primary purification, significantly not enough to drink. STEP 2 :REVERSE OSMOSIS                       Filtering the Finer Contaminants   Water flows in many parallel streams through hundreds of Reverse Osmosis pressure tubes after the Microfiltr...

101 WAYS TO SOLVE WATER ISSUES

Image
I.Introduction: One of the biggest issues in Singapore is the lack of water. With about 5,6 millions people, it is stated that 143 litres of water is consumed everyday. The reason why they still have that amount of water is because of the four national taps and of course, there are many problems that need to be taken into consideration. Before thinking of having other solutions to have more water, I think everyone firstly should be responsible and save the water. II.How to save water: Managing water demand is as important as securing an adequate supply of water . These are all the ways to save water that I have found in the internet and from my experience and perspective:       1. Instead of singing in the shower , you can go to the music room . A lot of people spend almost an hour taking a shower even though all they have done in there is only washing their body with soap and cleansing it. Moreover, I observe that some people even relax by soaking themse...

EXPERIENCE TO NEWATER PLANT

Image
Actually, it was not a long journey, I don't even know if this could be counted as a journey....Firstly, I'm going to talk about the view outside the factory. After a long time on the bus, we finally arrived at the NEWater plant, which was close to the airport and we could see planes approaching almost every minute. As I step  out of the bus, the beautiful scenery outside the factory caught my eyes. Outside the factory was a giant pool with water which seemed pure and formed a gorgeous view with the factory. The reflections of the trees and building lay on the water have given the tourists a feeling of easiness. The first thing a saw in the museum was a big curving wall with more than a hundred separate mini screens on it, showing where we would use water in our lives. I assumed the purpose of it was to remind people that nearly every single thing that we did involved water. The guide showed us a video on the big screen inside the m...

CONCLUSION

Water is important and it will always be a precious resource. Therefore, we want to shout out to everyone that people should be responsible when using it. "Even though this learning journey was shorter, I still enjoyed it very much. I have learnt many new things about water and created many memories with my friends. That was the best part to me."                                                                                                          - Phuong Trang - "Despite being at a massive disadvantage with a natural lack of sufficient water to fulfill the needs of its citizens, Singapore has managed to take the first step to conquer the potentially debilitating weakness through the creation of NEWater, which itsel...
